In response to the demand for cultivating talents in historical research and teaching, this department emphasizes the development of students' foundational historical knowledge. The curriculum is designed with courses such as Taiwan History (6 credits), Chinese History (8 credits), World History (8 credits), Introduction to Historiography and Historical Methods (8 credits), totalling 30 credits, which accounts for approximately one-fourth of the total graduation credits of 128. This ensures that students possess basic knowledge in four major historical domains, laying a foundation for understanding the historical origins and development contexts.

In recent years, there has been a particular focus on the design of methodological and applied courses, incorporating various theoretical and practical elements such as "Public History"," Data Base Design"," Digital Resources and Historical Studies " " Historical Geographic Information System"," Historical and Writing","History of Western Museums", "Western Classical Archaeology and Art History" and others. These courses aim to strengthen students' historical knowledge and its application in practical work. The department is also committed to enhancing students' interdisciplinary learning, broadening their perspectives with diverse learning opportunities and applied historical courses such as " Making Oral History "," The Making of Historical Documentary "," Creative Writing of Historical Stories " and " Spatial Field Survey and Historic Studies" providing students with hands-on experience and training. Additionally, multiple off-campus visits and field trips are arranged each semester to increase students' practical experience in fieldwork.

History at Tunghai collaborates with the Cloud Innovation Institute to pioneer Donghai's new "Digital History" era. We are dedicated to transforming historical research methods from traditional manual approaches to digital methods, including database development, tagging, and retrieval, thereby transcending the limitations of traditional observation in terms of quantity and scope. Application-wise, historical data is integrated into AI and quantitative databases to expand the practicality of historical materials and historical thinking. Furthermore, interdisciplinary cooperation and learning enable History students to acquire skills for the new generation, while STEM students gain humanities and historical awareness, creating more possibilities for the future. Courses such as "Historical Database Design" and "AI Data Science Technology" are compulsory for first-year students. Additionally, courses like "Digital Resources and Historical Research" and "Taiwan Historical Geographic Information Systems" will be progressively added, constructing a comprehensive learning pathway for "Digital History" and advancing towards the new era of AI and digitalization.
